1. Where to Hold Your Ceremony Chicago has so many beautiful spots for a small wedding:

  • Millennium Park — iconic city views and the famous “Cloud Gate” sculpture.
  • Navy Pier — romantic waterfront location with amazing lake views.
  • Botanical gardens or quiet parks — peaceful, green, and perfect for photos.

If you want something a bit different, rooftops or art studios can be a great choice. Just make sure to check if they allow ceremonies and photography.

2. Season and Weather Chicago weather can be tricky, so timing matters:

  • Summer and early fall — warm, green, lots of flowers.
  • Winter and early spring — snow can make for magical photos, but it’s cold, so keep your photo sessions short and wear something warm.

Always have a backup plan in case of rain — a covered location or small tent works perfectly.

3. Legal Stuff To get officially married in Illinois, you’ll need:

  •  A Marriage License, which you can get ahead of time.
  • At least one witness (usually just one person). Getting your paperwork done in advance makes the day less stressful.

4. Photos and Video Even a tiny wedding is worth capturing:

  • Usually, 2–4 hours is enough for the ceremony and photos.
  • Hiring a professional photographer is worth it — they know the city, the best spots, and how to get those natural, beautiful shots. Your photos will be the memory of this special day forever.

5. Guests or Just You Two

An elopement can be completely private or include a couple of close friends. The choice is yours. Smaller weddings give you more time for each other and more freedom to do exactly what you want.

6. Budget

Elopements usually cost less than big weddings, but there are still some expenses:

  • Photographer
  • Location fees
  • Flowers and small details
  • Mini celebration afterward (like a picnic or dinner)

Decide what’s most important to you, and you can have a beautiful day without spending more than necessary.

7. Extra Ideas

  • Mini picnic or private dinner after the ceremony.
  • Unique locations: museums, libraries, or art studios.
  • Personal touches: favorite songs, reading vows to each other, or small rituals that make the day truly yours.

Elopements in Chicago are all about moments, emotions, and beautiful photos. My tip? Focus on what matters to you, and let a professional help with planning and capturing it all.
